Judge Joseph Salvi is a Lake County Circuit Court Judge with over five years of experience serving as a judge in Lake County.
Judge Salvi was unanimously appointed by the Illinois Supreme Court to serve as Circuit Court Judge in the 5th Subcircuit of the 19th Judicial Subcircuit (Lake County). He was officially sworn in on January 2nd, 2018. Prior to his appointment, Judge Salvi served as an Associate Judge in Lake County since 2013. There he was assigned to the Criminal Division and Civil Division/Family, where he became known as a dedicated and hard-working judge.
With over twenty-six years of experience in the law, Judge Salvi has extensive and well-rounded experience handling many different types of cases, including having represented people all throughout Illinois. Prior to become a judge, he was a Partner at Salvi, Salvi & Wifler, a highly respected legal firm in Lake Zurich. He tried numerous bench and jury criminal, civil, traffic and chancery matters in Lake, Cook, McHenry, DuPage and Kane Counties. He also handled probate litigation, real estate and business transactions, and estate administration.
In 1992, Judge Salvi was also appointed a Guardian ad Litem (GAL) for disabled adults and minors by the Presiding Judge in the Probate Division of Lake County. In 1995, he was named an Arbitrator in the 19th Judicial Circuit, where he ruled on the admissibility of evidence, decided questions of law and fact, and made awards in civil matters. He is a Member of the Illinois State Bar Association, the Lake County Bar Association, and the Illinois Judicial Association.
Judge Salvi earned his bachelor’s degree from Knox College in 1988 and his law degree from IIT – Chicago Kent College of Law in 1991. He was admitted to the Bar in the State of Illinois and the U.S. District Court of Northern Illinois in 1991.
In an effort to foster respect for the law and emphasize the importance of being a good citizen, Judge Salvi is a frequent speaker at high schools, has helped organize law merit badge days for the Boy Scouts, and has acted as mock trial judge for high school and Boy Scout mock trial competitions. Since 2001, he has served as President of the Rev. Joseph Firnbach Association, a foundation that helps parish families in financial need pay for tuition at St. Francis de Sales grade school. A founding contributor to Foglia YMCA, he is a leader in local sports, coaching youth wrestling, softball, baseball, basketball and soccer teams throughout the Lake Zurich area. Two of the kids he coached went on to play Division 1 sports.
Judge Salvi is the eighth of nine children born to Al and Marita, who moved to Lake Zurich in 1953. He attended St Francis de Sales Grade School and Carmel High School. He and his wife, Bridget, have four children of their own: Joe (21), Angela (19), Olivia (17), and Emilia (14).
